About us

Since the 1980s

Specialised in the production and marketing of strawberries and blueberries, Erilla Fruit SL is a family run business founded by Antonio Pérez González after decades working in the soft fruit sector.

Founded in 2016

Erilla Fruit was established in 2016 with a commitment to the excellence of its products, its workers (over 400 during Huelva’s soft fruit season), its clients, its suppliers and the environment.

Efloba

Erilla Fruit is part of Efloba, an organisation of fruit and vegetable producers looking to join forces to consolidate their position in traditional markets and access emerging markets for the berries of our region, Huelva.

Products

Between the months of December and June, Erilla Fruit produces and markets, approximately, 3,000 tons of strawberries in its more than 40 hectares of land of its three farms: Las Malvinas, El Coto and El Lucio.

The blueberry season, on the other hand, lasts until July. Three varieties are grown in the 12 hectares of the Don Sancho farm, one early crop and two later crops, producing close to 300,000 kilograms of berries.

Erilla Fruit has achieved the GLOBALG.A.P., Integrated Production, BRC, IFS and Tesco Nurture certifications, enabling us to export our berries to several European countries, such as Germany, The Netherlands and United Kingdom.

These certifications guarantee that the strawberries and blueberries produced by Erilla Fruit are of the highest standards, without compromising on the protection of the environment or on the wellbeing, safety and health of our workers.

Strawberries

With their vibrant red hues and early summer aroma, the strawberries grown in Huelva are one of the most attractive and delicious soft fruits. Strawberries are also very healthy, as they are low in calories but high in water (over 90%) and many minerals and vitamins that support our wellbeing. As they are rich in vitamin C (more than citrus fruits), strawberries can help boost our immune system. Strawberries also provide folic acid, antioxidants, fibre, ion, potassium and vitamin E. An ideal fruit for the whole family.

Blueberries

The sweetness of what is known as ‘the fruit of the 21st century’ is irresistible even for the most discerning palates. Blueberries can have as many nutrients as strawberries, and they have one of the highest levels of antioxidants thanks to the combined action of organic acids and anthocyanins. They are also a source of fibre, ion, potassium, vitamin A, vitamin C and several vitamins from the B group. And they are practically fat free. Not many small fruits offer so many benefits.

Production
01
Preparing the soil

In the month of August we start preparing the soil beds to ensure they meet the conditions to provide the nutrients needed for the optimal growth of the berries later in the year.

02
Planting

The weather conditions in Huelva in the month of October are ideal for planting strawberries. Our climate, paired with the hard work of soil management, ensures the plants produce a fruit with a unique colour, size and flavour.

03
Greenhouses

In November, the strawberry beds are covered with large polytunnels that offer extra warmth to achieve, among others, an early crop.

04
Picking

To ensure the highest quality, strawberries are harvested at their optimum ripeness. This is done carefully by hand from December to June.

05
Quality control

The fruit is taken to our packing facilities where a first visual control ensures its quality. This quality control is maintained throughout the whole packing process until the fruit is ready to be despatched to the end client.

06
Packing

Strawberries and blueberries are handled and packed automatically and with the latest technological advances at the Erilla Fruit modern 2,000 m2 packing facilities.

07
Cold storage

As chilling the fruit is key to extending the life of the berries, to preserve their appearance but also their nutritional properties, Erilla Fruit has one packing cold store and two fridges for packed fruit with capacity for 120 tons.

08
Distribution

For this fundamental step, which ensures that the fruit arrives on the shelves at their optimum ripeness, Erilla Fruit relies on its transport partners for the national and international distribution and supply of its soft fruits.
